Several people are feared dead and others injured following a serious multiple-vehicle accident at Salgaa along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
The crash happened on Saturday afternoon near Simba Cement, one of the busy sections of the highway. Several vehicles were involved in the accident, including a long-distance truck.
Police officers and emergency responders rushed to the scene to help with rescue operations and manage the situation. Ambulances were also seen at the scene as efforts to assist those involved continued.
A witness at the scene said the accident was serious and had caused major disruption along the highway. The witness also reported that the driver of the truck had died, while the turnboy survived the crash.
The exact number of people who died or were injured had not been confirmed at the time of the initial reports. Authorities were still working at the scene as rescue operations continued.
The accident also caused heavy traffic along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway. Motorists using the route were advised to approach the Salgaa area carefully and follow directions from traffic officers.
The Local Drivers and Conductors Association also issued an accident alert, asking motorists to exercise caution when approaching the affected section of the road.
Salgaa is known as one of Kenya's major accident black spots. The busy highway carries large numbers of passenger vehicles and trucks travelling between Nakuru, Eldoret and other parts of the country.
The latest crash has once again raised concerns about road safety along the route, which has experienced several serious accidents over the years.
As emergency teams continued working at the scene, motorists were urged to remain patient because of the traffic congestion caused by the crash.
Authorities are expected to establish what caused the accident as investigations continue.
For now, the main focus remains on assisting those affected, clearing the damaged vehicles and restoring normal traffic flow along the busy highway.
