President William Ruto has made several new appointments to key government institutions, bringing fresh leadership to the Railway Development Levy Fund, Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and the National Cybersecurity Agency.
According to a Gazette Notice issued on Friday, August 21, 2026, Lynette Njeru has been appointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Railway Development Levy Fund Board for a three-year term. Her appointment took effect on August 21.
The Railway Development Levy Fund plays an important role in supporting railway infrastructure development in the country. Njeru will therefore oversee the board as it continues to handle matters connected to the fund.
Ruto also reappointed Joseah Kiplangat Cheruiyot as the Chairperson of the KMTC Board of Management for another three years.
Cheruiyot's new term also started on August 21. Following his reappointment, he pledged to work with the board, management, staff and students to strengthen the institution and improve medical training.
KMTC is one of Kenya's main institutions for training healthcare workers. Its graduates play an important role in supporting the country's health sector.
In another major appointment, President Ruto named Dr Martin Koyabe as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Cybersecurity Agency.
Koyabe will also serve for three years, with his appointment taking effect on August 21.
The cybersecurity agency has an important role to play as Kenya continues to expand its use of digital services and technology. Strong leadership will be needed to help protect government systems and other important digital infrastructure.
The latest appointments come less than a year before the 2027 General Election, a period when changes in government institutions are being closely watched.
Public officers who intend to contest in the 2027 election will be required to leave their positions by February 10, 2027, according to the electoral rules cited in the report.
For now, the newly appointed officials are expected to begin their responsibilities and work with their respective boards to oversee the institutions.
The appointments also give the three agencies new leadership as the government continues to make changes across various state institutions.
