The United States has warned its citizens living in or travelling to Saudi Arabia to remain alert following threats by Yemen’s Houthi group against airports and airspace across the kingdom.
In a security alert issued on October 7, 2026, the US Mission in Saudi Arabia said the ongoing security situation could worsen and affect air travel and movement within the country.
The warning came amid rising tensions and reports of attacks targeting Saudi airports, raising concerns about the safety of passengers and airport operations.
The US Mission advised American citizens to prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions. Travellers were also urged to confirm their flight details directly with airlines and airports before leaving for their journeys.
The advisory further warned US citizens against travelling near the Saudi-Yemen border because of security risks.
US government employees working in Saudi Arabia face additional travel restrictions. They are prohibited from travelling within 20 miles of the Yemen border and require special authorisation to visit certain locations, including the provinces of Jizan, Asir and Najran.
The restrictions also apply to travel to several cities, including Qatif, Yanbu and Taif.
However, the alert did not instruct all American citizens to leave Saudi Arabia. Instead, it urged them to remain vigilant, avoid designated high-risk areas and follow safety instructions issued by Saudi authorities.
Rising Security Concerns
The warning follows public threats by the Houthis against Saudi airports and airspace as tensions in the region continue to rise.
The group has previously carried out attacks against Saudi targets, including civilian airports, raising concerns about the possible impact on international travel and regional security.
The latest developments could affect airlines, passengers and travellers who depend on Saudi airports for international connections.
Authorities have urged travellers to monitor official announcements and confirm flight arrangements before heading to the airport as the security situation develops.
