Several government agencies have received new leadership appointments and reappointments in a fresh shake-up involving key state institutions.
Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir appointed Stephen Mutai as a member of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Board for a three-year term. His appointment took effect on August 21, 2026.
Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano also renewed the appointment of Professor Erastus Mutembei Kanga as Director-General of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
Kanga will serve for another three years as he continues to lead the agency responsible for managing and protecting Kenya's wildlife and national parks.
At the same time, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen appointed a new team to the Intelligence Service Complaints Board.
Joseph Gitonga Riungu was appointed chairperson of the board. He will work alongside Naema Ibrahim Somo, Lawrence Nyalle, Samwel Owino Wakiaga and Charity Kagwi Ndung’u. The members will serve for three years.
The changes did not stop there, with other government agencies also receiving new appointments.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi re-appointed Patrick Kimemia Ndirangu, Lucy Chepkemoi, Amos Simiyu Makokha and Ali Mohamed Haji as members of the Public Procurement Regulatory Board.
Their new three-year terms also began on August 21.
Other appointments were made to the Railway Development Levy Fund Board, Protective Security Wages Council, National Labour Board, Pest Control Products Board and Technopolis Development Authority.
Professor Wanyama Musiambo was also re-appointed as Chairperson of the Board of Governors of Bukura Agricultural College for another three years.
The latest changes affect several important government institutions and come as different ministries continue to reorganise their boards and leadership teams.
The appointments are expected to ensure that the affected agencies have fully constituted boards and leadership teams to oversee their operations.
For NTSA, the changes come as the authority continues dealing with major issues involving road safety, licensing and regulation of the transport sector.
At KWS, Kanga's reappointment provides continuity as the agency continues its work in wildlife conservation and management.
The fresh appointments will now see the newly appointed officials begin their respective terms as government agencies continue implementing their mandates.
